Derby Games' CEO, Tom Hessert, left a successful career at Urban Outfitters (Nasdaq: URBN) to start Derby Games. As divisional planner, Tom ran ecommerce operations for a $180MM division of Urbanoutfitters.com. In May 2011, the idea for Derby Jackpot was born while Tom was attending the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore, his first real horse race. Tom founded Derby Games in Manhattan with Bill and Walter that summer. Eric joined shortly after and company began development of their first game. The company's development team has tested and grew Derby Jackpot to one of America’s first legal online gambling offering. The success of Derby Jackpot paved the way for the company’s leadership in the growing US gaming community. Tom has a BA from Notre Dame.
Walter Hessert is co-founder and Chief Product Officer. His focus is making sure that all games are fun to play. He recently spent a year driving across the country in an Airstream trailer, meeting entrepreneurs and telling their stories, while being sponsored by people he met along the way including local businesses and large national brands including Airstream, Rainbow Sandals, Titos Vodka and Aspen Ski Company. Walter also leads business development and new partnerships. He has a BA from Notre Dame.
Bill is an entrepreneur with expertise in data analytics. Through his interest in data, Bill began working in the horse racing industry in 2006. He has also worked as a researcher with Freakonomics. Bill has BA from Notre Dame and a Masters in Quantitative Finance from Princeton University.
Eric has over 15 years of experience building and leading technology teams. He has held various senior positions at RollingStone.com and Spring Street Networks. At Derby Games, Eric oversees all development and leads new integration efforts. He has a B.S. in Computer Science from Ohio University
